Is the YoloBox Pro a Good Investment?
There are all kinds of switch boxes and add-ons that have turned the point-and-click photography and videography business into an all-encompassing tech parade. It may seem overwhelming for newcomers to figure out what’s best for their studio or their budget. How do you know what products are best for your business - products that not only add to your capabilities but also increase the profitability of your business? We do.
The YoloBox Pro is an HD studio playback device that’s streaming capable, has ports for multiple outputs and inputs, wifi capability, and onboard storage. It’s a studio that fits in a side-satchel, just plug in a camera, turn it on and go. But is it really that easy? If you’re new to the game, you want to know if you’re getting a choice piece of equipment or if you’ll be more likely to use it as a desk weight. Here are the features, pros, and cons included in your YoloBox Pro:
Features
The YoloBox is an all-in-one unit, which means it has a built-in monitor running off its own internal battery and a camera that allows it to sub as a webcam. The monitor is 8 inches with a 1080p display. It has 8 video sources, 3 HDMI, 1 USB, and 1 usb-c for in/out. It also has built-in streaming software running off an Android OS, allowing you to stream with it straight out of the box through an ethernet or wifi connection at up to 1080p and 60 frames per second. It also includes onboard software for live streaming and media mixing, including audio recorded from an available microphone slot.
Pros
The quality of the monitor is incredible for the size and unit cost.
It has a built-in multi-service streaming connector which allows you to push content to multiple streaming services simultaneously. That’s Twitch, YouTube, Facebook, and other custom sources.
YoloBox is constantly updating to fix bugs and implement new features with new patches and firmware almost every week that add new sources, new compatibility with existing devices, and better streamlining for new and older users.
The streamer compatibility allows for one-touch graphic integration and layering without additional software. And it can do this remotely for in-field, abroad access over wifi.
Cons
It’s a compact monitor but has no built-in speaker. You’ll need headphones in the 3.5mm jack outlet to work with any onboard audio.
The USB-C charger is “picky” with its power supplier, may not work with all compatibility chargers, or may work sporadically.
It’s futuristic, but 6E wifi is still a bit too new for it to connect to.
It can’t use alpha channel video imports for overlays, it only imports static image files. For now. Updates may change that in the future.
Conclusion
YoloLive has made a new step forward in video content production for almost every industry that uses it. It’s a must-buy, and as an investment, learning to use it is quick enough that it can pay itself off with one booking of the high-quality, super-portable, anywhere-anytime capabilities of the YoloBox Pro.
